A retelling of THE CRAB THAT PLAYED WITH THE SEA from Rudyard Kipling short stories.
Once upon a time, there was a magical lady named Dr. Wonder. She lived up in the sky and helped all the animals find their special jobs.
She told the big elephants, “You’re strong! You can hold up the whole world!”
She smiled at the dolphins, “You’re so playful! You can swim and jump and make the ocean happy!”
And to the birds, she said, “You can sing beautiful songs and fly high in the sky!”
All the animals loved their jobs, but one little crab named Snappy didn’t. He wanted to play all the time! So, he ran away and hid in a secret cave under the water.

A little boy named Tam saw Snappy run away, but he didn’t say anything.
Tam told Dr. Wonder, “The water keeps messing up my sandcastle! Sometimes it’s too high, sometimes it’s too low.”
Dr. Wonder said, “Hmm, that’s strange. Let’s go see what’s happening!”
They hopped into a special underwater boat and found Snappy. He was HUGE!

“Snappy!” said Dr. Wonder. “What are you doing?”
Snappy said, “I’m just playing! When I go out, the water comes in. When I come back, the water goes out!”
Dr. Wonder said, “Oh, Snappy! You’re making a big mess! We need to fix this.”
She used her magic wand to make Snappy small again, then gave him tiny claws.
“These claws will help you live in many places,” she said. “You can find yummy food, dig a cozy home, and even climb on rocks!”
Snappy was so happy! “Wow! I can go anywhere now!”
Dr. Wonder smiled. “Yes, but remember to be good. Once a year, your shell will get soft, just to remind you.”
Then, Dr. Wonder asked the Moon to help keep the ocean moving gently. That’s why we have tides today! The water goes in and out slowly.

Tam was happy building sandcastles, and Snappy was happy scuttling across the sand with his new claws. Dr. Wonder’s gentle guidance helped everyone find their place in this world.
