This delightful brer rabbit story follows a mischievous rabbit who steals vegetables from Mr. Man’s garden, then uses his wit to escape trouble by tricking his forest friends. This timeless tale teaches children about consequences, friendship, and making better choices while entertaining them with classic trickster humor.
Once upon a time, Mr. Man had a yummy garden full of juicy carrots and big, green cabbages.

One day, Brer Rabbit came to the garden when Mr. Man wasn’t looking. Brer Rabbit was very hungry, and he ate some of Mr. Man’s veggies! Then, he ran home.
Mr. Man saw that his vegetables were gone. “Who’s been in my garden?” he shouted. He called his dogs and said, “Find who ate my vegetables!” The dogs followed Brer Rabbit’s tracks all the way to his house.
Brer Rabbit was resting at home when he heard the dogs barking. “Oh no!” he said. “I need to get away!”
He ran out the back way and saw his friends – Brer Fox, Brer Wolf, Brer Bear, and Brer Coon.
“Friends!” called Brer Rabbit. “Mr. Man is having a big party with cake and music! Hurry before it starts!”
“A party?” said Brer Bear. “Let’s go!”
“I love parties!” said Brer Coon.
All of Brer Rabbit’s friends ran towards Mr. Man’s house, and the dogs followed them instead.
Brer Rabbit laughed until his sides hurt! He had tricked his friends and the dogs and saved himself!

Brer Rabbit’s friends were mad! They didn’t like that Brer Rabbit tricked them, so they made a plan. They decided to have a big party and invite Brer Rabbit. But the party was a trick! They were going to catch Brer Rabbit when he came.
But Brer Rabbit was hiding in the bushes and heard their whole plan! So, Brer Rabbit ran ahead of his friends and found Miss Meadows. Brer Rabbit told Miss Meadows that Brer Fox, Brer Wolf, Brer Bear, and Brer Coon were coming to play music for a party.
When Brer Rabbit’s friends arrived, Miss Meadows said “ No party here!” So, Brer Rabbit got away again!
That night, as Brer Rabbit lay snuggled up in his cozy bed, he thought about his adventures that day. He knew that playing tricks on his friends wasn’t very nice, even if it did get him out of trouble.
Brer Rabbit decided to apologize to his friends and share carrots with them the next day. Having friends was more important than playing tricks to get out of trouble.

The next morning, Brer Rabbit hopped over to see his friends. But Brer Fox turned his back. Brer Wolf walked away. Brer Bear wouldn’t even look at him. Brer Coon just shook his head.
Brer Rabbit felt a cold, empty feeling in his belly. Tricking them had been fun, but now nobody wanted to play with him.
“I’m sorry,” said Brer Rabbit quietly. “I was scared of the dogs and I wasn’t thinking about you. I brought carrots to share.”
His friends looked at each other.
“You got us chased by dogs!” said Brer Wolf.
“Mr. Man was really angry,” added Brer Bear.
Then Brer Fox smiled just a little bit. “We forgive you, Brer Rabbit. But next time, ask for help instead of tricking us.”
“I promise I will,” said Brer Rabbit. And he meant it.

The end
