When the beam begins to fade on a blustery night, a brave girl steps up to help. This gentle lighthouse story reminds us that even the smallest hands can shine a light to help others find their way.
Once upon a time, there was a tall, tall lighthouse by the big, blue sea. The big round light at the very top helped the boats find their way in the dark.
Inside the lighthouse lived a kind man called Mr. Eli. He was the lighthouse keeper! Every day, he polished the big light, and every night, he made sure it shone bright, bright, bright!
In a cozy cottage right at the foot of the lighthouse lived a little girl named Amelia. She and Mr. Eli were good neighbors. When she played in her garden, she would often wave to him high up in the tower.
One day, when Mr. Eli was outside, Amelia asked him a question she had always wondered about. “Mr. Eli, why do you keep the light shining?” Mr. Eli smiled, “To help ships find their way, Amelia. The light is like a friend in the dark!” Amelia thought about this. It made her feel good to know the light helped people.

One evening, a gusty wind began to blow, and rain tapped a sleepy rhythm against the roof. Amelia peeked out her window at the tall tower right next door. But something was wrong—the big beam was flickering and getting dim!
“Oh my,” whispered Amelia. “The ships need their friend in the dark.”
She buttoned up her yellow raincoat and skipped across the short path to the lighthouse door. Inside, she found poor Mr. Eli with a bad cold, sneezing and sniffing in his chair. He was just too tired to climb the stairs.
“Don’t worry, Mr. Eli,” Amelia said gently. “I can help!”
She climbed the spiral steps all the way to the top. There was the big light, looking sleepy just like Mr. Eli. Amelia saw the heavy brass handle that kept the light spinning. Reaching up high on her tiptoes, she gave it a strong push. Click! The light hummed happily and began to shine bright and steady once again.
When the storm calmed down, Mr. Eli felt much better. He thanked her for being so brave. “You helped the ships too, Amelia,” said Mr. Eli. “You were like a little lighthouse keeper!”
Amelia was so happy! She learned that we can all be like lighthouses. We can shine our light and help others. We can make the world brighter, and that feels really good.
