When Dardan feels lonely in his new house, a shimmering rainbow door appears in his room, leading to a peaceful forest filled with gentle friends. This soothing read aloud preschool story shows little ones that even when we feel alone, friendship and belonging are closer than we think—sometimes just a rainbow door away.

Once upon a time, there was a little boy named Dardan who loved the gentle sounds of nature. But his new house felt a little lonely.

“It’s so quiet here,” Dardan whispered.

One calm evening, as Dardan sat in his room, something soft and glowing appeared on his wall. Tiny lights floated like sleepy fireflies, swirling into the colors of a rainbow.

The colors grew brighter and brighter… until a beautiful rainbow door appeared, shimmering softly.

The secret door

When he stepped through, he found a peaceful forest waiting for him.

Tall trees swayed their branches like a slow, gentle wave. “Welcome, Dardan,” they whispered. “We’ve been waiting for you.”

Little birds settled on the branches above, humming a soft lullaby. “You belong here,” they sang quietly.

Flowers nodded their heads, opening just a little to say hello without a sound.

The green moss felt like the softest pillow under Dardan’s feet as he walked deeper into the forest.

He sat down on a smooth, warm stone near a quiet stream.

“I was lonely,” Dardan said softly. “But this feels… nice.”

A gentle turtle lifted her head from the water. “We all feel lonely sometimes,” she said. “That’s why we find each other. You’re part of our forest family now.”

A sleepy fairy floated down and sat beside him. “Even the biggest trees started small,” she whispered. “And they grew strong because they had the forest around them. You have us now.”

Dardan smiled. His heart felt warm and full.

When he walked back through the rainbow door, the quiet house didn’t feel lonely anymore. He knew his forest friends were just outside the rainbow door, keeping watch while he slept.

And from that night on, whenever Dardan felt alone, he remembered: he had a whole forest of friends who were always there, peaceful and calm, waiting to welcome him home.
