A fairy tale modern of friendship, jealousy, and sharing.ย

Under five minute story for beginning readers.

There once lived a kind princess who loved nothing more than the flowers blooming in her father’s grand garden. She delighted in wandering the sun-dappled paths.

Silvio, a gentle boy, was a gardener with a knack for making plants thrive. He knew the name of every flower and could coax the shyest bud to open. The love of all things growing bound the princess and Silvio together.

Their friendship was sprinkled with the magic of Thistle, a playful forest fairy who couldn’t resist the garden’s allure. Her iridescent wings flashed when she laughed, and the princess loved to hear Thistle’s tales of hidden glades and mischievous sprites. Silvio, always practical, would smile at their antics.

One day, Thistle noticed a change. The princess and Silvio would hold hands as they walked. Their smiles seemed just for each other. A strange feeling flickered in Thistle’s heart โ€“ not the bubbly cheer of her usual visits, but a sharp little pinch, like a thorn. She believed she should be the Princess and Silvio’s favorite friend. As days turned into a week, the pinch grew stronger, twisting into jealousy.

The princess awoke one morning to find Silvio gone. Her search led her to a newly bloomed apple tree, a sweetness in its scent that tugged at her heart. With tears in her eyes, she sat nestled against its trunk. An apple tumbled softly into her lap as though the tree was trying to comfort her.

Strangely, when she peeled the apple, the peel fell in the shape of an ‘S,’ just like the first letter of Silvio’s name. Another day, it formed a tiny star, reminding her of the sparkle in Thistle’s eyes. Her heart ached. Could magic be at play?

Each day, a new apple brought a new sign. Sometimes, it was a heart, sometimes a leaf, but often, it was the ‘S’ and the star, reminding her of her missing friends.

The princess has strange feelings of jealousy

She hugged the tree and cried, “Apple tree, bring my friends back to me! I miss them both so much.” That’s when she felt it โ€“ the tree trembled, and then…Silvio was standing in front of her! A shimmer of green turned into Thistle, who looked worried.

The joy of Silvio’s return was quickly followed by a question for Thistle. The fairy confessed, feeling ashamed. In her hurt, she had used her magic for a foolish act. The princess gently took Thistle’s hands. “Thistle,” she said, “Were you feeling sad that Silvio and I were spending time together? It’s alright to feel that way sometimes, but friendship isn’t about keeping someone all to yourself. It’s about sharing!”

Thistle learned something important that day: friendship isn’t like a single flower she could possess but a garden that grows more beautiful when shared. From then on, the harmony of a princess, a gardener, and a fairy filled the garden with a special magicโ€”the love they shared for one another.
