Cael had a book with no words. Only pictures of planets — round and glowing and strange.
He wanted to touch one.
He pressed his finger to the first planet. It was wrapped in purple clouds, soft as a held breath. He could almost feel them, cool and slow against his hand.
He turned the page. This one sparkled. Light bounced off it in every direction. Cael squinted and smiled at the same time.
He turned the page again. This one was deep blue, almost dark. And from somewhere inside the picture, he thought he heard something — not quite music, not quite wind. Something in between.
He sat very still and listened.
His finger rested on the blue planet for a long time.
Then he closed the book slowly. The planets were still in there, spinning in the dark, wrapped in their clouds and their light and their songs.
Cael pulled his blanket up.
Outside his window, the real ones turned slowly too — purple and bright and deep — each one patient, each one waiting to be found.
