A retelling of The Old House from stories from Hans Christian Andersen
Once upon a time, there was a big, old house with a pointy roof. It was the oldest house on the street! A nice grandpa with white hair lived there.
A little boy named Reo lived across the street. He loved the old house. It looked like a castle!
One day, Reo gave the grandpa his favorite toy, a little wooden monkey. The grandpa was so happy he invited Reo inside for a visit.

Wow! The house was full of surprises! There were paintings of fairies and swirly stairs that went up and up.

The grandpa and Reo looked at a special book together. It had pictures of stars, big fish, and balloons that flew in the sky! The grandpa said there were even more amazing things to see in the world.

When winter came the old house looked like it was taking a long nap. It was quiet and empty. Reo found out that his kind old friend had gone on a magical adventure, just like in a fairy tale!
Reo dreamed of his friend in a cozy sleigh, sailing past ice castles, drinking warm cocoa.
One day, Reo saw people cleaning the old house. He went inside and found the wooden monkey toy! He hugged it tight. It reminded him of the kind grandpa.

Even though they were apart, Reo felt warm inside, knowing that his friend was having a wonderful adventure. And who knows, Reo thought, maybe one day, I’ll go on my own exciting journey, and we can share our stories when we come back!
The End
